According to the conserved vector current theorem, the tau lepton decays could be utilized to calculate the hadronic vacuum polarization (HVP) contribution to the muon anomaly. For example, the decay rate of tau -> 2pi nu is related to the cross section of e+e- -> pi+pi- which gives the dominant contribution to the HVP at low energies.
